Okmulgee is the home of Oklahoma State University Tech--Okmulgee, Oklahoma's only technical institution offering aninety semester hour Associate in Applied Science Degree. OSU--Okmulgee's Noble Center for Advancing Technology conducts customized employment training for business and industry. The Donald W. Reynolds Technology Center, engineered with a fiber-optic backbone, offers advanced technological industry and education research and curriculum in manufacturing, multimedia, micro-instrumentation and fluid power.

Within 40 miles of the community can be found the University of Tulsa, Oral Roberts University, Tulsa Junior College, and Rogers University. The Tulsa Area Vo-Tech system is strong with several technical branches in the metro area.

There is a public library in Okmulgee with nearly 63,100 volumes on hand.
